Description
The MCP98208 digital output temperature sensor is a
complete and NIST-traceable device and is verified
with equipment calibrated according to the
ISO/IEC-17025 standards. The MCP98208 device
converts temperature from -40°C and +125°C to a
digital word. This sensor provides an accuracy of
±0.2°C/±0.5°C (typical/maximum) from -20°C to
+60°C.
The MCP98208 device utilizes flexible, user-programmable
internal registers to configure the temperature
sensor's performance and response to high and low
temperature conditions, in order to provide system
design flexibility. Three dedicated alarms activate if the
temperature measurement exceeds the user-defined
temperature conditions. The internal registers allow
user-selectable settings, such as Shutdown or
Low-Power modes and the specification of temperature
Alert boundaries or Alert limits.
The MCP98208 has an internal 256-byte EEPROM
that can be used to store user-customizable data or
specific product information, critically important to
enhancing the application's system performance and
reliability. The EEPROM provides ultimate data storage
and protection capabilities with Permanent
Write-Protect and Software Reversible Write-Protect
options. This allows the system designer to store key
protect product information and protect it from hacking
or accidental data over-write. The EEPROM can be
used for high write endurance (>1M write cycles) for
frequent data storage and event capture capabilities.
This sensor uses an industry standard 2-wire,
I2C-compatible serial interface, allowing up to eight
devices to be controlled on a single serial bus.
The MCP98208 device is available in a space-saving
2 x 3 mm, 8-lead TDFN package.
